REVIEW OF THE SKYDOGS

AT THE KINGS PALACE PATIO

(SUNDAY, JULY 13, 2003)

Just got back from the Kings Palace

Patio located on Beale Street and

there’s one word that describes this

band – awesome! From Hendrix to

Rolling Stones, from Stevie Ray Vaughn

to down home blues, these guys can

play anything and everything. And

what’s amazing is these guys do not

APPEARING AT THE KINGS PALACE PATIO EVERY FRIDAY 8:00PM TO 12:00AM AND SATURDAY 9:00PM TO 1:00AM

rehearse. It’s one fantastic jam session

after another. Each and every song is

solid and tight. It’s unbelievable the

high-powered energy three guys can produce.

Playing to a packed house, everyone has

a great time, young and old. As the night

gets longer, the music from each set just

gets better. Four hours of non-stop high

energy and great music from start to finish.

You will not be disappointed. When you visit

Beale Street whether it be a Friday or Saturday

night, don’t miss this show. You’ll walk away

feeling 10 feet off of Beale.

Cloud Callout: Can I play now???8/02/03: SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE KINGS PALACE PATIO

Usually, a second review is out of the ordinary for me because I

like to be spontaneous and exhilarated from hearing a band’s sound

for the first time. But, after seeing and hearing SkyDogs perform

tonight, the feelings I felt the first time came rushing back.  I have

another word for this band – incredible. We arrived in the middle

of the second set and it was awesome to see an overflowing, packed

house on the patio. People that couldn’t find a seat were standing

outside the entrance rocking to the music. And the SkyDogs were

rocking the house tonight! It was great to see Guy Venable back in

his old spot thumping his bass to draw you into the music, Rick

McConnell feeling the core of each song and making his guitar sing

the blues with every note, and Phillip Durham not missing a beat

with his incredible drumwork that makes you want to get up and

move. If you have never heard this band’s rendition of “Voodoo

Child”, you are missing the most amazing guitar playing ever. It

was so cool seeing Steve Earnshaw sitting in on bass a couple of

songs with Guy joining in on vocals. The ultimate would be Lyn

Jones backing up on harp and seeing the five of them together on

stage producing a sound that would make everyone on Beale Street

stop and listen. How awesome would that be!! There’s one thing

that makes this band stand out from the rest; not only can these

guys play, but they play with their heart and soul. You just can’t

get enough of their sound. SkyDogs have the cure for anyone that’s

feeling the blues.
